Marly Spotlight: Sarah Ferrari
Tue 20 Apr 2021
Over the last 10 years, one of our most enduring collaborations has been with the brilliant Sarah Ferrari, whose design across our websites, marketing and branding has been an essential part of our journey.
Sarah’s designs have allowed us to create accessible and inviting tools for artists to express themselves, and to highlight the work we do in a way that everyone can feel celebrated and included. From designing this very website, to our posters, marketing materials, GIFs, short films and documentation, Sarah’s work has had a huge impact on our company and we are forever grateful to have her be part of the Marlborough Productions family.
We asked Sarah about her creative process and her work with Marlborough Productions over the years:
What’s your design ethos?
To create successful design work, I think it’s essential to enjoy what you do. For me, that means working with people whose values I believe in and support. It makes the design process so much more interesting and leads to being more invested in creating meaningful design.
What’s your favourite design you worked on with The Marlborough?
Such a tricky question, as there have been so many fun projects over the last ten years! Up there has to be the series of themed seasons; Young, Queer & Skint, Sex With the Lights On and the first Trans Pride Season at the Marlborough, as we developed a clear and bold look that unified them, but allowed each season to have its own identity.
You work a lot with queer artists and companies. What are the highs and lows of designing in a queer context?
I don’t think there are any lows really… it can be hard to see people struggling to realise their ideas due to financial or social circumstances, but it’s amazing to be part of the team that makes it happen regardless! It’s an area I feel passionate about and is a big part of my life.
