Support services during Coronavirus
Wed 15 Apr 2020
In line with government guidance, The Marlborough will remain closed until further notice. We know that the Marly is an important community space, and that this time will be especially difficult. Below is a list of support services and resources that are still running during this time.
The latest government guidance on Coronavirus can be found here.
Brighton & Hove Mutual Aid Groups have been set up across the city, with Facebook and WhatsApp groups for each neighbourhood. If you are shielding or self-isolating and need assistance, or if you would like to volunteer your time, we would recommend joining one of these. This Google Map overlay shows each group by location.
Brighton & Hove Food Partnership has provided a handy list of local food delivery services in the city that are operating at this time.
The Clare Project is Brighton & Hove’s transgender support and social group. Their TNBI Support Line remains open to all trans, non-binary, intersex, and gender-questioning adults for a friendly chat and informal advice 4 days/week (Mon / Tue / Fri: 1pm – 4pm and Thu: 5.30pm – 7.30pm). Their weekly Tuesday drop-in, and their TNB Hastings and Brighton groups, have also moved online. Get in touch for more information at [email protected] or visit clareproject.org.uk
Mind Out is Brighton’s LGBTQ+ mental health charity, and their advocacy and online support services continue to be open through this challenging time, including dedicated slots for trans people and under 30s. If you would like to speak to a MindOut member of staff, email [email protected] or call 01273 234839.
Ageing Well is a signposting and support service for people aged 50+ in Brighton & Hove. Their advice line 07770 061 072 is open Mon – Fri, 9am – 5pm. You can see their latest list of local and national support services here.
The Survivors Network supports survivors of sexual violence and abuse in Sussex. Their helpline is running on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12pm – 2pm, and they are also able to deliver one-to-one support remotely. They have also published a list of online resources available at this time.
Rise is a Brighton-based charity that helps people affected by domestic abuse. While their drop-ins at Hove Town Hall and the Rainbow Hub have been suspended, you can still call the RISE helpline Mon – Fri 9am – 5pm on 01273 622 828 or contact them online via The Portal. Out of hours, you can call the 24-hour National Domestic abuse helpline on 0808 2000247.
Lunch Positive is a group created by and for people living with HIV with a mission to provide community, food, friendship and peer-support. Their team of dedicated volunteers are providing cooked food that can be collected or dropped off at your home, while their private Facebook and WhatsApp groups can help you stay connected during this time.
Radical Rhizomes is The Marlborough’s own social group for queer, trans and intersex people of colour (QTIPoC). The group’s monthly meet-ups have now moved online.
The Rainbow Hub has volunteers receiving telephone enquiries on 01273 675 445 (Mon – Sat, 2pm – 6pm).
